My Early Inspiration and Professional Journey

At the tender age of 6, I delved into the world of clay, experiencing the tactile joy of "slinging mud" and the freedom to come home adorned with its traces. My journey began in 1992, professionally, marked by a fortunate exposure to diverse cultures and styles that profoundly shaped my craft. Read on to learn more about me, David Changar.

Influences and Artistic Palette

Drawing inspiration from a rich tapestry of influences, my contemporary ceramics creations echo the curvaceous forms of Greco-Roman and Chinese vases, the fantastical realms of Antonio Gaudi's architecture, the whimsy of Dr. Seuss, and the playful aesthetic of George Ohr's pots. These diverse influences converge to mold the unique shapes of my pottery.

A Passion for Traditional Techniques

Fueled by a love for traditional Chinese Flambé glazes and Fulper's glaze techniques, I seek to reproduce these classic effects. However, I infuse my own creativity by incorporating a vibrant palette featuring reds, oranges, and yellows.

Embracing Innovation and Variety

Preferring to avoid replicating my work, I thrive on new challenges and exploration. My portfolio showcases pieces inspired by past masters, museum reproductions, and an array of styles. Regularly introducing new products throughout the year, each creation reflects my commitment to continuous evolution.

Craftsmanship Excellence

Craftsmanship lies at the core of my process. Employing various techniques such as wheel throwing, hand-building, and slip casting, I prioritize the highest quality in every piece. Whether hand-thrown or molded, each work is meticulously signed and dated.

High-Quality Materials

Crafted from high-quality porcelain or stoneware clay, each piece undergoes a high-fired vitrification process for durability. Adorned with bright, vivid glazes, my creations have found a home in museum stores, gift shops, and galleries nationwide.

A Passionate Endeavor

Armed with a liberal arts degree from Hampshire College, focusing on architecture and design, I take great pleasure in producing these pieces.
